Montréal, Canada - September 1st, 2016
Today, Secure Group announced the 1.9.0 release of the Secure Chat instant messenger. Secure Chat is an OTR encrypted chat service running over XMPP and is available for users on Android and Secure Group’s proprietary hardened mobile devices: Secure Phone and Secure BlackBerry.
The 1.9.0 version offers features of cross-platform compatibility and Secure Chat contacts. The dev folks at Secure Group also re-polished the appearance and positioning of some UI elements across the app screens.
- Favorite contacts
Secure Group already added favorite contacts to Secure Voice, and it is just about time to have it on the chat as well. Again, this option is made as simple as a sequence of a couple taps of your screen. Users again need to just edit a contact and add or remove it from the Favorites list using the “start” icon while in "edit a contact" mode.
- Auto-save profile image
This feature allows users to store profile images on the server-side. Such an option was not available and when someone accessed Secure Chat on multiple devices, their profile pic only appeared on devices it was uploaded to. With the new feature, the profile pic is automatically fetched on each device you log in. Of course, when you delete an account, your image is removed as well. Also, don’t forget that your contacts see your profile pic. In this case, every time you upload a new image, this is reflected in your buddies contact lists as well.
- Cross-platform compatibility
Since the last release when Secure Chat was announced as free to Secure BlackBerry users, few compatibility issues emerged. Users on Android and Secure Phone could not rely on statuses displayed for their Secure BlackBerry contacts. All this is now cleared out and Secure Chat behaves and displays the same across all platforms.
Minor improvements and fixes are also part of this release. The latest build is already available on the Google Play store.
